The Genesee Chair Proves Thin Profiles Can Provide Comfortable Seats

WAYLAND, NEW YORK – July 14, 2016 – As Gunlocke evolves as a brand, it continues to move out of its comfort zone to create products that combine its heritage of craftsmanship with a modern aesthetic. Its latest introduction, the Genesee conference and executive chair, truly reflects this new balance between modern design sensibility and the company’s heritage. For example, the chair, designed by Alyssa Coletti of Nonfiction Creative, is named for the region where Gunlocke staked its roots and remains today, Western New York’s Genesee River Valley. Targeted for private offices and conference spaces, the Genesee chair combines sleek aesthetics with comfort, an unusual feature for a thinner-profile seating option. Relevant and forward-thinking, this chair is different than anything Gunlocke previously has offered. This chair is the fifth seating design Coletti has created for Gunlocke since 2014. To some respects, it echoes Coletti’s design for the Convo stool, introduced in 2015. Both Convo and
Genesee have similar, low-profile seat shells shaped to hide bulky cushioning. Coletti’s original sketch featured a chair with an exceptionally thin profile that also had an exaggerated seat bottom. The designer decided to keep this silhouette as she refined Genesee’s design, leaving the molded seat deeper than normal so that Gunlocke could add cushioning that supports the user where it’s most needed, while unnecessary bulk is sculpted away. Similar chairs with a thin profile typically sacrifice comfort, but Genesee’s subtle cushioning adds uncommon comfort for a chair of this type. Genesee conference and executive seating is available in high- and mid-back options. It has a
five-star swivel base with a tilt back with lower profile mechanisms than other chairs in this category. Three available arm options include: armless, polished metal and wrapped upholstery, a new look for Gunlocke in this category. “Genesee’s design delivers comfort and adjustability to users, without the distraction of excess function,” says Jason Wolfanger, Gunlocke’s director of product design and development. “It’s refined, clean and elegant, without being overdone.” For more information about the Genesee chair or Gunlocke, contact 1-800-828-6300 or visit www.gunlocke.com.
