WAYLAND, NEW YORK – December 15, 2017 – After receiving Best of NeoCon Gold in June, then being named a finalist for Interior Design Magazine’s Best of Year Award, the Calm Lounge by Erin Ruby is recognized again by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies with the GOOD DESIGN® award for 2017.

The Calm Lounge Collection, with complementary occasional tables, combines the best of style and modularity. Ruby saw an opportunity to incorporate softer forms into the design, not only to add comfort, but also to make the lounge less formal and more approachable.

“I worked from two main inspirations – aesthetics and function,” Ruby stated. “There is a gap in lounge offerings when it comes to providing modularity in public spaces, so my initial design morphed from a conventional one-, two-, or three-seat lounge to a modular solution.”

Good Design was founded in Chicago in 1950 by architects: Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames and Edgar Kaufmann, Jr. The program honors and recognizes the best design talent and the best manufacturing worldwide. For 2017, over 900 new products and graphic designs were selected from over 48 countries.

“This year’s historic 67th Good Design program recognizes the work of thousands of designers,” states Christian Narkiewicz-Laine, Museum President, The Chicago Anthenaeum. “Good Design represents the world’s critical mass of the design and manufacturing industry representing the best consumer design ranging from the ‘spoon to the city’.”
