WAYLAND, NEW YORK – June 12, 2017 – Gunlocke takes home three Best of NeoCon Gold awards and receives an Editor’s Choice award for new seating product introductions.  Tia™ Guest, Tia™ Stools, and Calm™ Lounge Collection were given top awards in their category. The Calia™ guest chair also received an Editor’s Choice Award from Contract Magazine.

“One signature of Gunlocke and its craftsman is paying attention to detail,” said director of product development Jason Wolfanger. “Those details may include the type of stitch, focusing on small features that enhance the approach view of a chair, or ensuring the joinery of a leg will stand the test of time in strength and beauty.”

The Tia Guest Chair and Stools, designed by David Mocarski of Arkkit Forms Design, both received Best of NeoCon Gold in the Guest Seating and Best of NeoCon Gold in the Bar Stool Categories. The first collaboration between Gunlocke and Mocarski, the designer strived for subtlety.

“It was essential that the design has a unique personality. Profile, silhouette, and proportion drove the design.” Mocarski stated.

The Calm Lounge Collection, designed by Erin Ruby, received Best of NeoCon Gold in the Lounge Furniture Collection category. In designing the modular lounge, Ruby turned to Italian furniture from the 1970s, 80s, and 90s as touchpoints, focusing on volume and upholstery techniques from these eras as her primary points of research. Aesthetically, Ruby saw an opportunity to incorporate softer forms into the design not only to add comfort but also to make the lounge less formal, more easygoing and approachable.

“It’s something that invites you to sit. It bridges contract, hospitality and residential environments,” she says. “The idea evolved from a balance of the softer volume on the interior to the shell’s more structured form that allows for flexibility and ease of reconfigurability. It’s more relaxed than a traditional contract lounge.”

Grabbing the attention of the editors at Contract Magazine was Brad Ascalon’s first creation with Gunlocke.
