Members of Gunlocke descended upon The Vincent House Comfort Care Facility with rolled up sleeves to volunteer their time. The crew of 25 spent the afternoon of Thursday, August 10th replanting flowers, trimming shrubbery, mulching flower beds and even re-staining a gazebo. Some ventured inside to dust and conduct some general cleaning. One of the organizers, RCI engineer Dan Lander, arrived previously to spend half a day power washing the gazebo in preparation for the staining.
“The members were very willing, and we didn’t have a shortage of volunteers,” said director of member community relations Olga Mendez. “The Vincent House has had a tremendous impact on the local community and is dedicated to a very altruistic mission.”
The Vincent House provides free end of life care for the terminally ill. Since opening its doors on December 4, 2000, it has counted on donations and the kindness of volunteers to provide symptom relief and emotional well-being to those entering their last days.
“The Vincent House has touched many families, including the families of Gunlocke members,” stated Gunlocke president Kris Yates. “When the Member Engagement Committee asked for people, the response was immediate and overwhelming. I’m proud our members are so willing to step up for the community and offer a helping hand.”
