Allsteel Inc., a leader in workplace furnishings, has won a 2017 GOOD DESIGN award in the furniture category for Retreat, a collection of space-defining lounge pieces. As an award winner, Retreat now becomes part of the prestigious Permanent Design Collection of the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, a co-organizer of the GOOD DESIGN awards program.

Designed in partnership with Niels Bendtsen of Bendtsen Design Associates, Retreat’s coordinating family of upholstered lounge pieces—a wing-back, a high-back, a low-back and an ottoman—work to solve the challenge of underutilized social and collaborative areas. The collection has a refined, residential look, thanks to Bendtsen’s long experience creating timeless pieces in the category. Allsteel drew on its expertise in the workplace to make Retreat’s geometry, size and scale ideal for comfortable, active work. Retreat’s statement of line allows for flexibility and many possible applications across the floorplate.
