Allsteel Unveils "Designed to Do Better" Sustainability Commitments, Alongside Parent company HNI Corporations 2022 Social Responsibility Report

Chicago, IL. July 17, 2023 – In celebration of its persistent commitment to progress and excellence, Allsteel and its parent company HNI, proudly present the Corporation’s 2022 Corporate Social Responsibility Report.


 This report highlights the company’s unwavering dedication to fostering inclusivity, safety, and sustainability, while showcasing the progress made towards a brighter future. Under the new banner of Designed to do Better, Allsteel’s commitment to sustainability aims to build a better portfolio of products that makes a positive impact and ultimately leads to a better experience for everyone.  

  • Better Portfolio: Allsteel is using tools like life cycle assessments, independent third-party certifications, and stringent durability testing to demonstrate its progress, making it simple for people to choose better. 
  • Better Impact: Allsteel is designing and manufacturing with sustainability at the forefront by integrating accountability into its operations and supply chain partnerships with goal to achieve zero waste, reduce energy use, and reducing scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.  
  • Better Experience: Allsteel solutions are designed to do better for people by aligning its efforts with its client’s goals, pursuing certification that impacts decisions for the here and now as well as the future.

As seen in the report, HNI is making progress on the company’s measurable goals contributing to its long-term growth and success. The report includes stories and details of activities undertaken by HNI to reduce energy use, emissions, and waste, and further integrate sustainability into HNI’s company culture.   • • Progress in understanding the chemicals in products in addition to achieving Declare Label for Architectural Products for Stanley Center for Peace & Security, which is anticipated to become the first fully certified Living Building Challenge Building in Iowa 
  • • Advance all task seating from BIFMA LEVEL® 2 to LEVEL® 3  
  • • 47% non-recyclable foam eliminated from packaging 
  • • 1% pre-tax profits donated annually 
  • • 100% of Tier 1 Suppliers compliant with new Code of Conduct 
  • • Reduced absolute energy consumption by 8% compared to 2018 
  • • Reduced absolute combined Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 64%
