(MUSCATINE, IA) – Allsteel, Inc., a leading office furniture manufacturer, introduces the Retreat Executive/Conference Chair, which provides a humanized and approachable aesthetic to the traditional executive chair. Available in mid and low back options, this chair brings warmth to a product that is known for its sterile and technical design. Designed by Niels Bendtsen of Bendtsen Design Associates, the Retreat portfolio combines Bendtsen’s expertise in successful residential design with Allsteel’s understanding of real workplace issues.

Alone or when combined with the existing lounge collection, the Retreat Executive/Conference chair eliminates the traditional oversized, overstuffed “status symbol” executive chair and replaces it with a more reserved, gentle design that can speak to the multiple generations of leaders in the workplace today. Building on the same comfort construction as the successful Retreat lounge that utilizes a soft, pliable construction, the Retreat Executive/Conference chair features an elegant design while still providing an image of success and power.

The Retreat lounge collection that launched at NeoCon 2017, is a family of upholstered, space-defining lounges that works to solve the problems of underutilized social and collaborative settings. Featuring a refined, residential look that is Bendtsen’s expertise and drawing on Allsteel’s workplace and ergonomics insight, the chair’s geometry, size and scale are ideal for comfortable work postures. The Retreat Executive/Conference chair completes the portfolio which will now offer solutions for any environment.

About Niels Bendtsen
Danish-Canadian industrial designer Niels Bendtsen is the co-principal of Vancouver-based Bendtsen Design Associates. Bendtsen’s father, a cabinetmaker, apprenticed with Jacob Kjær in Copenhagen; Bendtsen in turn, apprenticed with his father at the family shop in North Vancouver, where his respect for precision was formalized. A cast metal candlestick holder, the first product he created, sparked a lifetime of design and manufacturing. In 1973 Bendtsen returned to his birthplace, Denmark, and plunged headfirst into design. He freelanced for the likes of Eilersen, IKEA, and Kebe—for whom he created the Ribbon Chair that holds a place in the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection—and produced his own pieces under the brand 2B. More recently, Bendtsen has designed for Linteloo, Montis, FLOS, and his own brand Bensen. For more information, visit www.bendtsenassociates.com
