Our Commitment
At Allsteel, we’re focusing our commitment to sustainability by building a better portfolio with better impact that can create a better experience. Humans are at the heart of everything we do at Allsteel. Caring for our people, and yours, is what makes us human. So before we make decisions or take action we start with a question – how can we do better? By designing to do better we enhance experiences, increase confidence, and help sustain a better world for us all.
Our Better Portfolio initiative deals with physical well-being. Key touchpoints include ergonomics, comfort, Work Geometry, and usability and approachability.
Better Impact focuses on emotional and mental well-being. Key touchpoints include acoustics, privacy, adjacencies, community, collaboration, and biophilic considerations.
Better Experience highlights the importance of social well-being. Important factors to consider are inclusive design, psychological safety, engagement, and belonging.

WELL Certified™ Gold Spaces
Allsteel’s Los Angeles showroom was the first project in the world to achieve WELL Certified™ Gold in the Retail Pilot Program, followed by our Boston and Chicago showrooms, where we also achieved WELL Certified™ Gold in the Retail Pilot Program. The WELL Building Standard™ was the first building standard to use evidence-based metrics to determine how the design, construction, maintenance and operations of a building support occupant health and wellness.
Planet Positive Award 2024
The Stanley Center for Peace and Security was named the Workplace Winner in the 2024 Metropolis Planet Positive Awards. This recognition exemplifies Allsteel's “Designed to Do Better” philosophy through its commitment to creating a positive impact, a stronger portfolio, and enriched customer experiences. Outfitted with Allsteel’s environmentally conscious furnishings – including Beyond® walls, Silea™ desks, Parallel™ sofas, and Corral Cobra tables – the Stanley Center exemplifies sustainable, functional, and impactful design.
We believe tomorrow should be cleaner, safer, and more responsible than yesterday. Because sustainability doesn’t have an endpoint, we are working constantly to reduce our operational impacts and enact sustainable change.
Chemistry
A continued focus on health – of people and the planet. Allsteel is working to evaluate 100% of our materials for human and ecosystem impacts, while minimizing impacts through Design for the Environment and Life Cycle Analysis.
Climate
A continued focus on mitigating climate change. Allsteel’s climate goals align with the 1.5° goal of the Paris Climate Agreement and focus on purchasing 100% renewable energy, reducing energy use by 50%, and partnering with supply chain partners to lessen their impacts.
Circularity
The push toward renewable and recyclable practices. Allsteel will move to 100% recyclable packaging by 2025 and by 2030 will achieve zero waste to landfill at all facilities.

The development stage of a new product sets the course for how it will later impact the environment. Using our Design for Environment process, we plan for a product’s long-term fate. Packaging, chemical content, renewable materials, and recyclability of products become important additions to the product design process. Replaceable parts are available to repair existing products, which helps reduce the environmental and social impacts of raw material extraction and energy used to produce new products.
As we strive toward our environmental commitments, we’ve made tangible improvements to our facilities. Take a tour of one of HNI’s plants where Allsteel product is manufactured to see how our teams contribute to our sustainability goals.
In 2020, we joined RE100 and committed to sourcing 100% renewable electricity annually by 2030. We met this goal in 2020 and committed to meeting it every year into the future.
We take our responsibility to the Earth seriously and are committed to sustainable business practices. Our performance in meeting our environmental goals—including pursuing zero waste to landfill, reducing our energy intensity and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and sourcing 100% renewable electricity - demonstrates our commitment to minimizing our environmental footprint.
